First Marine Sanctuary and National park of India is located in the southern shore of Gulf of Kutch, Jamnagar District, Gujarat. The Gulf of Kutch situated on the western coast of India is the wing of the Arabian Sea, which separates the Saurashtra Peninsula from the Great and Little Rann of Kutch. At its seaward (western) end it is 58 km wide, from which point it tapers gradually eastwards, expand for almost 172 kilometre with maximum depth of 65 meters.
The Marine sanctuary and the park were recognized in 1980 and 1982 for the fortification of endangered marine and wildlife in the region.
