The starting point of Lonavala - Khandala is indistinct. The zone was once under the control of Chattrapati Shivaji, who founded the first Maratha Empire and later the Peshwas (who established the second Maratha Empire) and was at last assumed control by the British when they ousted the Peshwas.
Both the spots are perfect for those who want to experience adventure. There is barely any division between the twin hill stations. One can stay at Lonavala which has many hotels and a decent market and visit Khandala from that point. One can go for trekking, paragliding, waterfall rappelling (amid the monsoons), and hiking. For this, travelers may contact the Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC).
The primary tourist spots here are the Sunset point, Monkey point, Tiger leap, Lion point, Bushy dam and the many forts, caves and lakes and moreover the water falls you in the route to these spots, are the most pleasant ones. You ought to observe that after 6:00 pm as it gets darkened, all caves and forts are closed.
