Buddhist Gompas and Monasteries in Kalimpong, West Bengal, India

Thongsa Gompa as well known as the Bhutanese Monastery is the oldest monastery in Kalimpong founded in 1692. The unique structure was shattered in the inter clan clashes of the Gorkhas and was restored at the same location

Zong Dog Palri Fo Brang Gompa located on the Durpin hill, the monastery was blessed by the Dalai Lama in 1976. It retains special lamaism with a school of Tibetan medicine and a religious debating society. It has many Tibetan wall paintings, 108 volumes of the Kangyur brought by the Dalai Lama himself when he fled Tibet which is the special attraction of tourists.

Tharpa Choling Monastery established in 1937 and belongs to the Gelugpa or yellow hat sect of Tibetan monastery. The Monastery has a library of Tibetan manuscripts and Tankhas.
