Sunderbans national park is positioned at the South Eastern incline of the 24 Paraganas district in the state of West Bengal the name of which is derived from the mangrove plants recognized as Sundari. The Sundarbans are a element of the largest delta in the world created by the rivers Ganges, Brahmaputra and Meghna. 

Sundarban is a huge area which covers 4260 square kilometers in India alone, with a major part in Bangladesh. 2590 square kilometers of the Indian Sundarban form the biggest Tiger Reserve and National Park in India. The area of the Indian part of the Sundarban forest 2,120 square kilometers is occupied by mangrove forest across 56 islands and the remaining portion is under water.
