The vegetation and trees are semi evergreen, moist and dry deciduous forests, grasslands, Sal, orchids, numerous species of medicinal and aromatic plants too. The Simlipal national park is famous for elephants and singing hill myena along with other wild animals like tiger, leopard, pangolin, sloth bear, chital, mouse deer, flying squirrel, mugger crocodile, python, hornbill, peafowl and many more can be seen or sighted during jeep jungle or elephant safaris and bird watching in the park
The park remains open from October to June, jeeps and private cars are allowed inside the park. The entrances to the park are at Lulung and Jashipur 20 and 94 kilometers from Baripada respectively.The Barehipani Waterfall and the Joranda fall and mugger crocodiles at Jashipur are places and things to see in and around the sanctuary.
The entry permit can be obtained from forest offices at Jashipur or Range Officer, Pithabata at Pithabata Check Gate.
