Recognized in 1979, Van Vihar National Park is situated in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh covers an area of 446 hectares the park attracts a huge number of tourists each year. Van Vihar got identified as National Park in January 1983 and is extended and run as a modern Zoological Park as per the guiding principle of the Central Zoo Authority or CZA. 

Now Van Vihar is a fusion of a National Park and zoo where orphan animals are fetched from other parts of the country or exchange from other zoos. The park provides the main gateway to Bhopal and is also known as Safari Park, Van Vihar located on a hill close to the Upper Lake, with an area of about 4 square kilometers .
