Keoladeo Ghana National Park former known as the Bhartpur Bird Sanctuary in Bharatpur, Rajasthan is about fifty kilometers from Agra. Covering an area over 30 square kilometers is acknowledged as a World Heritage Site by the UNESCO and the only wildlife sanctuary along with lake in India artificially made by a Maharaja of Rajasthan. A large variety of birds, flowers, fishes, snakes, lizards, amphibians and turtle species makes Keoladeo Ghana National Park a birdwatchers' heaven for both foreign and wild life lover and tourists of India. 
The park derived its name as Keoladeo Ghana Park on account of an ancient Hindu temple at the center of the park and it was duck hunting reserve of the Maharajas of Bharatpur later it was converted into a Bird Sanctuary in 1956 and the random killing of birds continued till it was prohibited in 1964 by the India Government. Bharatpur was acknowledged a National Park in 1982 for the initiatives of renowned ornithologist Dr. Salim Ali. In December 1985 Keoladeo Ghana was deemed as a World Heritage Site.
