Keibul Lamjao National Park located in the Bishnupur district of Manipur, is the floating sanctuary in India. Covering an area of 42 square kilometres the park has a little population of Thamin or Sangai the brow antlered deer is an endangered species of deer in the world. The deer is on the verge of extinction and the park is the home of the rarest animal in the world. The Loktak Lake which is wealthy in biodiversity and the biggest fresh water lake in North east India. Acknowledged a sanctuary in 1969 Keibul Lamjao gained national park importance during 1977.
