It takes approximately 8 to 9 hours drive from Gangtok to reach Gurongdmar Lake. This lake is in on the road to Lachen, a small town in North Sikkim positioned at a loftiness of 10000 feet. Generally a night halt at Lachen is optional as it takes around 3 to 4 hours from Lachen to arrive at Gurudongmar Lake. The neighbouring village from Gurdongmar Lake is Thangu, at about 14000 feet. Visit to Gurudongmar Lake involves a permit as it located near to the Indo-Tibet border.
