Founded in 1984 Silent Valley National Park is situated in the district Palghat covers an area of 90 square kilometres along the Kunthi river valley. Nearest town is Mannarkkad and Silent valley is the place of tropical ever green rain forest. The locally known as Sairandhrivanam the park has complicated landscape and is encircled with Attappadi Reserve Forests in the east, forests of the Palghat and Nilambur divisions in the west and south and Nilgiri Forests in the west.
