Pamban Rail Scissors Bridge, Devipatnam : The island of Rameswaram is linked with the land by a two km long Pamban bridge, which was erected in the year 1930 on 145 stone columns. This bridge can be opened like a couple of scissors when extensive vessels need to cross through the strait. A piece of this bridge was damaged by the 1964 cyclone which was modified precisely in the same way.
