Bitharkanika National park and Gahirmatha marine sanctuary are arranged in Balesore district in the state of Orissa. It is popular for lavish green mangrove woods and Turtle settling beaches. Blankets a zone of 167 sq. km, it is otherwise called a marine park. The park with its mangrove woodlands in the waterways Brahmani - Bhaitarani Delta and  rivers, estuaries, back water, accumulated land and mud pads was principally settled to ensure the saltwater crocodile and other marine tenants of the district. It was informed as a Crocodile sanctuary in 1975 and a crocodile breeding centre has been created by the Orissa Government. 

Before entering to the sanctuary , one need to apply for entry permit and acquire the same from D. F. O Rajnagar. The perit may be required at Forest Check posts both on Roadways & Water ways.
