Kohima, the scenic town is the mountainous capital of Nagaland state. Located in south of Kohima District, it is furthermore one of the three Nagaland towns with Municipal council status together with Dimapur and Mokokchung. Kohima is the land of the bold and heroic Angami Naga tribe. Situated in the eastern frontiers of the Himalayan mountain array and panoramic sight of rocky Naga hills all around, Kohima is tranquil and peaceful hill station which can be visited all through the year. Floating at an elevation of 1500 meters above sea level, it is a distinctive Naga town which represents the mysterious tribal culture of the north east. The name, Kohima, was formally given by the British as they could not utter the Angami name Kewhima (Kew Hi Ma means the men of the land where the flower Kew Hi grows). Formally, Kohima was identified as Thigoma. Even though, the town was set up by the British however all the colonial structures were shattered at some stage in the Second World War.
