Jodhpur is the second biggest city of Rajasthan, following Jaipur. Rao Jodha, a ruler of Rathore clan, led to the foundation of the city in 1459. Furthermore known as the Sun City, Jodhpur has reasonably a history attached to it. The Rathores, after being pushed away from Kanauj by the Afghans, established in the area in the region of Pali city, near Jodhpur. Subsequently an alliance was set between Rathore Siahaji and the sister of a neighboring prince. This helped the Rathores to establish and strengthen themselves in this area. Their strength grew by the day and they even expelled the Pratiharas of Mandore about 9 km from Jodhpur.

With the passage of time, the Rathores felt the requirement to form a more safe and protected capital. This necessitate founded the Mehrangarh fort and as a consequence, the city of Jodhpur in Rajasthan, India. Under the ruling of maharaja Umed Singh, the city prospered more and developed into an excellent modern city. For the duration of the time of the British, Jodhpur received the designation of the largest state in Rajputana. The city, together with its dominant Marwari, the merchants’ population boomed continuously. Whilst India gained Independence in 1947, Jodhpur amalgamated into the union of India.

The city at the present positioned divided into two parts, the old city and the new city. Encircled by a 10 km stretched wall, the old city has 8 gates which lead out of it. Away from the walled old city, the new city of Jodhpur is situated. The chief attraction of the city is the gigantic Mehrangarh fort, one of the largest forts in India. Housing plentiful places, galleries, a temple and a museum within it, the fort reflects the capacity of the Jodhpuri artisans. Excepting that, a variety of other attractions such as a number of lakes, gardens, museums, temples, etc make Jodhpur travel and tourism a truly gratifying experience.
