 The town is positioned at an altitude of 4864 ft. Kurseong covers the area of about 5 square kilometers.
With a usual annual rainfall of about 160 inches, Kurseong has a chilly winter.
The bookish meaning of Kurseong is The Land of White Orchids. Kurseong is situated in West Bengal at an expanse of 51 kilometers from Siliguri on the way towards Darjeeling. Kurseong is not as famed as Darjeeling but still has a handful surprises for the tourists.

The town has traditionally pulled people from the plains as a summer stopover. Kurseong has served a good number of Indian and foreign artists, social reformers of India, poets of India and patriots of India. The list includes Rabindra Nath Tagore, Subhash Chandra Bose, Atul Prasad Sen, Sister Nivedita, and many others.

The century-old-schools of Kurseong are also celebrated for providing outstanding standard of education in India. Schools like St. Mary's School, Victoria Boys' School, St. Helen's School for Girls and Himali Boarding School are the mainly reputed ones.

In Kurseong some world class tea gardens in Kurseong can be found. The view of the Kunchenjunga is very beautiful from Kurseong.
History of Kurseong
In the wake of this energetic and current Kurseong town lays a history of transformation. In 1835 the King of Sikkim yielded the little province to the British Government during British rule in India. The village came to regular notice when the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway (DHR) expanded its railway tracks up to Kurseong on 25th August, 1880. DHR put up the Headquarters of the Sub-Divisions in Kurseong.

Deer Park Kurseong :The Deer Park or the Forest Museum is just 4 kilometers from the town located on the Dow Hill, is an attractive amusement park.
Eagle's Craig: This spot is celebrated for the views of sunset and the sunrise. It is about 1 kilometer from the main Rail Station.
Giddapahar Mandir: This is a holy place for the local people. This temple of the Lord Shiva is positioned 2 kilometers away from the town. Every year during Shivratri  mela is organized here.

How to reach Kurseong:
By Air: The adjoining Airport Bagdogra which is connected by regular domestic flights in India.
By Rail / Train : The two nearest Railway Stations are Siliguri and New Jalpaiguri NJP sitated at a distance of 57 kms. The Railway Stations are connected directly with Kolkata, Delhi,Hyderabad, Guwahati and other major cities in India.
By Road: Kurseong is connected by road with Siliguri and from there to nearly all the chief cities of India.
