Jag Mandir was erected by Maharaja Karan Singh and is famous for the Gul Mahal, an arched pavilion which was constructed by Maharana Jagat Singh along with a Zenana or the woman’s section in the palace.
Renowned for the location in the James Bond movie Octopussy it has historical importance too, when Prince Khurram or Shah Jahan was given shelter here when revolted against his father, Mughal Emperor Jahangir. During the time of The Indian Rebellion of 1857 or Sepoy mutiny, Maharana Swaroop Singh gave accommodation to European families in this palace.
