Located in Jorhat Nawgaon, the Kaziranga National Park declared a World Heritage site by UNESCO in 1985, having area of 435 square kilometres encircled by the Mikir hills on the south and Brahmaputra river on the north. The park alienated into central, eastern and western sectors comprise of semi evergreen forest highlands, marshes and widespread plains where tall elephant grass grows up to six metres height.

The park is well-known for Indian one horned rhinoceros. The area was declared a reserve forest in 1908 for the conservation of one horned rhino. The number of rhinoceros in the park is more than thousand which is seventy percent of the total population of rhinoceros species in the country. A horn of the rhino has high valuation and market price can fetch US $ 1,00,000 per kilogram.
