The Republic Day Parade starts with the appearance of the President of India, accompanied by a front of bodyguards riding the horses. The Prime Minister of India puts down a wreath at Amar Jawan Jyoti at India Gate to in honour of those who lost their lives in war. The President hoist the National flag with the play National Anthem along with 21 gun salute is given.
The Parade is piloted by the three divisions of the armed forces (Army, Navy and Air Force) who display their potency. This comprises of a dramatic air show as the parade grand climax. Every Indian state is symbolized by a diverse float that highlights an characteristic of its culture.
This year, the key theme of the Parade will be empowerment of women. An extraordinary element will be an all women marching contingent from the armed forces.
