Positioned at a height of 2,130 meter above sea level, Pahalgam, the Valley of Shepherds is a renowned hill station in Jammu and Kashmir. It is 45 km. away from the District Head Quarter at Anantnag and 96 km. from Srinagar, the state capital. Set in the midst of pine and fir woods and encircled by snow capped mountains, Pahalgam is unharmed by urban development.
It is a picturesque small village at the confluence of the streams that flows from Lidder and Sheshnag rivers. Pahalgam moreover serve as base camp for pilgrims scheduled for the shrine of Lord Shiva at Amarnath and treks to the high Himalaya mountains. Each year during July and August, the town throngs with thousands of pilgrims.
Pahalgam has a 18 hole Golf course at 2400 meter above sea level bounded by pine trees and attract the participation of local and national players in the tournaments. Temporary membership is also available here. Golf sets can be obtained on hire basis from the Tourist Office.
