Guindy National Park, maybe the smallest national park in India is situated within the urban limits of Chennai, Tamil Nadu is the home of rare Indian Antilope. The park covering an area of about 3 square kilometres has a history. Initially a game reserve of 500 hectares with its owner Gilbert Rodericks a Britisher. After his death in 1821 the state government procured it and was affirmed as reserved forests in 1910. A section of the Guindy forest was children’s park which later was handed over to the Forest department and in 1978 the whole forest area was acknowledged as Guindy national park.
