The entry to Hawa Mahal is from the City Palace side, through a majestic door which opens into a roomy courtyard. The courtyard has a double storied building on three sides. There is a tiny archeological museum here. Just the eastern wing has three more stories over, which are just a single room thick. The building, stand on a elevated podium, is a fifty-foot high slim shield, less than a foot in thickness, with little intimate chambers , which give this palace its exclusive facade. There are no usual stairs to reach the upper floors, but just ramps.
Hawa Mahal which is presently under the supervision of the State archeological department provides the visitor with brilliant panorama of the city. The best time to sight Hawa Mahal is sunrise when sunlight through the latticed windows gives it a breathtaking glow.
