The train tour operator who manages operation of Palace On Wheels Train Tour from middle of 1980, started 7 Nights / 8 Days Royal Rajasthan On Wheels Train Tour (moreover referred to as luxury edition of Palace on Wheels) to serve to a niche market. The train tour commenced in December 2009 and operates on a different route to cover South Rajasthan, Agra Taj Mahal by way of central India destinations of Khajuraho and Varanasi.
The Royal Rajasthan on Wheels train is magnificently furnished, has more roomy cabins and offers onboard Ayurvedic Spa Saloon and price tag about 20% higher than Palace on Wheels.
Till January 2012, the train was operating from Sunday evening / morning schedule. The Royal Rajasthan train is scheduled to operate from Wednesday Night to Wednesday morning.
