Rajasthan Raja Ajay Pal Chauhan erected the city of Ajmer during the seventh Century. Till the 12th Century, this city was the chief center of the Chauhan dynasty. Afterwards, the city was taken over by Mohammed Ghauri. Later, Ajmer served as the abode of the Mughal emperors too. Afterwards, the Scindias ruled the city during the 19th Century, before it was handed over to the British.
