Basic accommodation is obtainable at Bir and Chaughan Tibetan colony. For the limitation of facilities it is better for making arrangements in advance specially during season. There is an Aero sports complex along with hostel at Bir.

The Bir guest house provides basic amenities and the tariff is around Rs 100 per room. Moreover there is the Forest rest House in Upper Bir which is a lovely colonial bungalow with 5 large rooms with attached baths along with beautiful garden. charges being INR 300 per day for Indians and INR 1000 for foreigners. Advance booking ought to be done with the District Forestry Officer / DFO in Palampur.

In the Chaughan Tibetan colony, Shakya guest house which is a guest house of the monasteries has basic facilities with public bathrooms. A double room is charged Rs70 and Rs50 for single occupancy. Paldin's Guesthouse has solar heating, hot water connection and rooms ranging from Rs 100 to 200.

How to reach Billing , Himachal Pradesh

Billing is 14Km or an hours nearly jeep-taxi or van ride from Bir. The starting point is in front of Cape Amaho in the Chaughan Tibetan colony at about 10 am every morning in the duration of the season.

by Air: The domestic airport of Kangra  is at Guggal, which is 7km distance from Kangra town and nearly 40 km from Palampur. There are direct flights from Delhi to Guggal.
by Rail / train : Pathankot is the nearby rail station. An overnight train connects Delhi with Pathankot. From Pathankot Palampur is linked by narrow guage railway. One can take a bus or taxi to Bir from Pathankot too.

Every Kulu  Manali buses go via Mandi. Bir can be reached effortlessly from all these towns by buses or taxi. The distances from the diverse places to Bir are Dharamsala (70km), Mandi (70km), Palampur (35km), Jogindernagar (12km), Baijanath (12km). From Delhi, the overnight services of DTC Indraprastha Service to Baijanth, HTPC Super Deluxe to Palampur both leave from ISBT Delhi around 6pm are preferred. From the junction which turns towards to Bir Road, Taxis and Rikshaws are obtainable.

Hampi Festival - Karnataka

The splendid ruined city of Hampi is a small village in northern Karnataka state. Situated within the ruins of Vijayanagara, the past capital of the Vijayanagara empire (One of the greatest empires in the history of India), Hampi is 353 kilometers from Bangalore, positioned on the south bank of the Tungabhadra River, 13 km northeast of Hospet. Sheesh mahal mirror work The entry of the fort is through the Dil-e-Aaram Garden, laid out in the traditional Mughal style. An impressive flight of stairs leads to the Diwan-E-Am / hall of public audience which has latticed galleries and double row of columns apiece having a capital in the shape of elephants on the apex. To the right are steps that lead to the little Kali Temple. Maharaja Man Singh was a big devotee of Goddess Kali and prayed to the goddess for victory through battles. The temple has gigantic doors made of silver. The larger white marble Shila Mata temple has the image of Goddess Kali, brought by Raja Man Singh from Jessore in East Bengal / Bangladesh.



The emperors apartments is located on a higher terrace away from a two tiered decorative gateway, Ganesh Pol, covered with graceful frescoes and pavilions having captivating jali (Lattice worked) screens. The Jai Mandir / hall of victory has a sparkling ceiling with mirror pieces on stucco and well-designed inlaid panels. The Diwan- E- Khas, hall of private audience is alike in ornamentation to Jai Mandir and the 'Seesh Mahal' / hall of Mirrors known for its craftsmanship in mirrors, is the most amazing of the lot. Thousands of mirror pieces ornament the walls and the ceiling that, any streak of light makes them glisten and illuminates the whole room. In front of the Jai Mandir is the Sukh Niwas / hall of pleasure with a door made of sandalwood, inlaid with ivory with a channel running all the way through, which previously carried cool water acting as an air cooler.

The zenana or the women's apartments and frescoes which depict Krishna Leela scenes enclose a spectacular courtyard. There are private chambers from where the royal women could watch the events of the royal court in privacy. The well proportioned garden, Kesar Kyari in the hub of Maotha lake and the Dilaram Bagh at its north end provide a magnificent view of the palaces.

Ambar palace is positioned in Amber, the previous capital of the Kachhwaha Rajputs on a hillside overlooking Maotha Lake, 11 km from Jaipur on the Delhi - Jaipur road. Its construction was started by Raja Man Singh I, army commander of Mughal Emperor Akbar in 1592 and was finished by Mirza Raja Jai Singh and Sawai Jai Singh, over a period of nearly two centuries. It is a typical fusion of Mughal and Hindu architecture, built in red sandstone and white marble.

The palace or the royal apartments is situated inside the enormous Amber fort complex with gateways, gardens, halls, stairways, pillared pavilions, temples and palaces. How to reach Gangasagar mela , West Bengal

Sagar Island can be reached from either Harwood point or Namkhana. Both the points are linked by Calcutta State Transport Corporation (CSTC) or West Bengal Surface Transport Corporation buses. Distance of Harwood Point is about 80 Km. from Kolkata and Namkhana is 13 Kilometers. Bus fare from Kolkata (Esplanade) to Namkhana is around INR 40 -50. During the Mela buses will end at the ferry crossing at Harwood point / Lot 8, and they will start in Kolkata also from Babughat, Howrah RS and Taratola in South Kolkata.Namkhana and Harwood Point can be reached by train from Sealdah Station. There are direct trains to Kakdwip from Sealdah Station with link trains to Namkhana. Train fare up to Kakdwip is Rs. 18 only. From Kakdwip, Harwood Point is only 5 Km. and Namkhana is 12 Km. by bus or jeep.
During the Mela cycle-rickshaws operate between RS and ferry jetty, price was fixed at 15 Rs per person on a 4 pax rickshaw. Trains remain overcrowded with pilgrims during Mela time.
To reach Sagar Island one ought to cross the Muriganga river /creek by ferry service. Ferry service is obtainable in both Harwood point and Namkhana and under control of West Bengal Surface Transport Corporation.
After reaching Sagar Island travarse the whole stretch of Sagar Island 32 Kilometers by local bus / shared taxi. Fare should be around Rs.10 , jeeps charge around INR 800 to 900 for one way. There is no accommodation available on the point of crossing (Kachuberia), so everybody has to travel the whole stretch of the Island and reach the southernmost part, where accommodations are abundant.
Except from Namkhana and Harwood Point, there is as well a direct ferry service to Kachuberia , Sagar Island from Haldia.
It is possible to go the entire length by private / rental car from Kolkata. At Harwood Point there is arrangement to transport vehicle with the aid of a barge locally known as LCT. There are no schedule time for the crossing, for the reason it depends on the water level or on the tides. The charges for a light / medium vehicle is 250 to 300 INR. Houseboats are available, at the eastern part of the lake. Majority of the boats offer every modern amenities. The people of Kashmir used to call house boats the "boat of Kennath Sahib". Gifted with an inherent sense of exquisiteness and design, the Kashmiri has since specialize in decorating the interior of the house-boat most artistically and making it most comfy. A Shikara (a canopied tiny gondola, rowed with heart shaped paddles) is at hand with every house-boat like a water taxi. Vendors in Shikaras glide up to the doorsteps of the house-boat and offer a floating market of fruits, flowers, shawls, carpets, jewelry and handicrafts. Cost / hire charges of shikara 300 INR per hour, or 500 for 4 to5 hours round trip of the lake.

Whilst on a boat ride in the lake, one can perceive fascinating flora and fauna. The floras consist of lotus flower, water lillies and water chestnuts. Notable birds are kingfishers and heron. Apart from the houseboats, one can enjoy kayaking, canoeing, water surfing along with licensed angling on the lake.
The renowned Nishat Bagh (Garden of Gladness) is situated here. This garden was laid out by Asaf Khan, brother of Nur Jahan in 1632. From this point one can get pleasure from a fabulous view of the Dal Lake and the mountains beyond.
Shalimar Bagh is set at the conclusion of a canal that leads to the Dal Lake. It was build by Jahangri for his wife Nur Jahan. The garden is eminent by a series of terraces associated by a water channel. These are enclosed by decorative pools which can be reached by means of stepping stones. There are three pavilions. The uppermost pavilion has black marble pillars. The wall has the recess for flowers and lamps. The two lower pavilions has two Halls for private (Diwan-i-Khas) and public audience (Diwan-i-Am). Entrance / entry Fee: Rs 5/-.
